About the event
We are excited to invite you to the first in a series of storytelling events hosted by Chief Wedlidi Speck and Kester Reid, supported by the K’ate’mot Cultural Society and Comox Valley Arts.
This is a full day event of story-work celebrating the rich threads connecting North Vancouver Island Salish-Kwakwaka’wakw and Irish-Scottish traditions. As a cultural exchange between Indigenous and settler traditions, these sessions will bring old stories alive with their associated customs, cultural understandings, and participatory dialogue. Your reflections, and your experience of each story becomes part of a community inquiry into traditional knowledge, reciprocity, and reconciliation.
We will be gathering on E’ikwsan traditional territory at the Black Creek Community Hall to hear stories from both traditions about the winter season and its spiritual significance. We will work with the stories in circle and small groups to explore ancestral values and cultural connections.
As a community we will explore the cultural understandings…
