About the event
The Old Bone Fire is a winter series of storywork that dives into traditional stories from settler lineages, exploring their rich layers of insight, meaning, and guidance. Registration is for each session, or sign up for all three for a reduced rate.
In ancient Celtic tradition, during the festival of Samhain, which marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, large fires known as "bone fires" were lit. Our word "bonfire" itself derives from "bone fire." These fires were fuelled by the bones of sacrificed animals: offerings to the death of the old year, and the birth of the new one. The bones of the animals sacrificed for the feast fed not only the passing year, but also also our own dead, and the big forces of life, death, and renewal.
